James Leroy Hogue February 2, 1939 to March 4, 2025 and Shelby Jean “Bland” Hogue February 24, 1940 to March 2, 2025 were united together in eternal peace after 66 years of marriage. The couple was wed on November 21, 1958.  They were lifelong residents of West Terre Haute. Jim and Jean are leaving behind their children, Stacey (Trent) Dufour of Ormond Beach Florida and Jeff (Heather) Hogue of West Terre Haute.  Their grandchildren Braden (Kara) Hogue, Lucas (Ava) Hogue, Elizabeth Hogue, Haley Dufour, Will Barnett, and their kitty Sophia.  Jean leaves behind one sister Linda “Cathy” Starr of Terre Haute and nieces Ainslee and Kelsey.  Jim leaves behind one brother Joe (Sally) Hogue of Kingman, Arizona, sisters-in-laws LeAnn Hogue and Kathy Hogue, brothers-in-law Gib Evans, along with several nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, John Gordon and Mildred Essie Bland, sisters Shirley Batchelor, Gornetta Bland, and half-brother Thurman Bland. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Harold Leroy and Ruby Birdena Hogue, brothers John Hogue and Dennis Hogue, and sister Florabell Evans.

 Jim and Jean were loving parents and grandparents, who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with their children and grandchildren by the pool.  Jim retired from Duke Energy after 27 years.  Jim served in the US Army and was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and Masonic Lodge.  In his retirement he enjoyed woodworking in his shop.  Jean worked at West Vigo High School in the cafeteria for many years, later she worked at Sam’s Club.  Jean was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and a founding member and past president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.  Jean loved crafts of all sorts and working in her garden. 

Later in their marriage Jean suffered from a major stroke.  Jim lovingly cared for her at home until he was no longer able to.  At that point she was cared for by the staff of Signature Healthcare.  Over the past 2 ½ years the staff not only cared for Jean but became an extended part of the family.  Jim’s last weeks were also spent at Signature Healthcare.  Jean was able to spend her last moments with Jim by her side thanks to the staff. The family is forever grateful to the Signature staff for the care and love they gave to both Jim and Jean.

Per Jim and Jean’s request there will be no visitation or services. The family asks that any memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Arrangements were entrusted to Samaritan Funeral Home.
