Janice Louise (Davey) Callaway found everlasting peace on April 21, 2022. She left this world to spend eternity fishing with her beloved husband, Lee. He is holding her seat, poles, and bait at their favorite spot, by Lake Jacksonville. She liked the simplicity in everything, such as her preferred name, Jan.
Jan was born in Terre Haute, IN, on December 2, 1955. She grew up in Jacksonville, IL, the daughter of Patricia Ellen (Bough) and Truman Dale Helmig. She passed away in her place of birth - but she was so much more than that.
Along with her surviving parents, who miss her profoundly, Jan leaves behind brothers and a sister: Wyman, Jeff, Wynne Helmig, and the "twins," Steve and Gary Cowan, all younger siblings who looked up to her like a second mom and a friend. Jan will be missed by her loving stepson and step-daughter, Damien Callaway and Heather Callaway McErlean. The grandkids, Wesley, Sierrah, Madison Callaway, Jacob, Brendon, Justin Dickson, and great-grandchildren will remember her sweetness.
Jan grew up uniquely, understanding ASL first, then English, as she was the "spokesperson" for her Deaf parents and younger brothers and sister. She was nurturing and generously helpful to a fault. She lived in several other places because of this nature, Florida, Arizona, California, and back to Illinois, where she met Lee Callaway - and rode off into the sunset with him.
Jan enjoyed reading - romances and fantasies were her favorites! And any kind of humor quickly had her laughing!
Per her wishes, Jan will not have a remembrance service and visitation. Still, she would cherish a memorial donation to your local humane society, as she tenderly loved animals. Arrangements were entrusted to Samaritan Funeral Home.
