Jeannine Ann Hoopingarner, age 93, died peacefully of natural causes in her home on September 15, 2025 surrounded by her children. She was born on March 25, 1932 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Henry and Helen Ewing.
She was in the graduating class of 1950 at Greencastle High school. She met the love of her life, Ronald J. Hoopingarner of Brazil and together they raised their four children and made a home in Brazil, IN.
Jeannine was known by many school age children as their adored school bus driver and was greeted by them and had shared conversations long after her retirement.
She was also instrumental in helping to initiate the special education program in Clay County.
She enjoyed being a wife and mother and taking care of her family. She will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ronald, son Steven, a brother Charles Ewing and sister-in-law Patricia Ewing, and a sister, Joyce Leer and brother-in-law, Larry Leer, and brother-in-law Harold Hoopingarner.
She is survived by her children, Rhonda Louderback (Rick), Ann Hoopingarner, and son Bruce Hoopingarner (Annette), along with four grandchildren, Carrie Jones Conner, Andrew, Eric, and Hayley Hoopingarner. She is also survived by one sister, Cheryl Salsman and her husband, Gary, and sister-in-law Marion Hoopingarner, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
We want to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Southern Hospice Care. There are too many to list. Your expertise, kindness, and commitment to our mom’s comfort over the last few years we will be forever grateful for.
We also want to thank special caregiver, Diane Gill for her tenderness and kindness with our mom over the last several years. We will forever be truly thankful for what she did for her and our family.
Our mom was never one to be the center of attention and at her request will be cremated with family only celebrating her life.
Her wish was memorial contributions be made to the Clay County Humane Society.
Even though her presence has left this world, her love and memories will forever dwell in the hearts of many.
