John L. Turner, 74, of Terre Haute passed away Monday, December 2, 2024. He was born July 18, 1950, in Terre Haute to John and Joy (Gummere) Turner.

John, affectionately known as Larry by family and friends, was a 1968 graduate of Honey Creek High School and retired from Eli Lilly and Company, but later pursued his interest in learning to drive a big rig after obtaining his CDL license and driving for various trucking companies. 

John was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.  For many years, he enjoyed exploring the United States and sharing experiences with his family through various road trips and adventures. His family fondly remembers that he was always the first to rise in order to do some initial exploring, and would later return with a cup of coffee in order to excitedly awaken his deeply sleeping family to let them know what was in store for them that day.  John loved animals and throughout life was known to keep various types of companions, and with his wife Anita, found joy in rescuing animals in need, whether it be helping a turtle cross the road or welcoming a stray cat or dog into the family.  He was a firearms enthusiast who enjoyed sharing his hobby with his son, John, and son-in-law, Troy. He was always pursuing projects and performing acts of service in order to spend time outdoors and show love to his family; restoring fishing boats, building a sidecar for his motorbike to take his granddaughters for a ride around the yard, and helping family with yardwork and projects to lighten their burden.  He took pride in serving and supporting his family and friends throughout his life, and their successes were his successes.

John is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Anita (Young) Turner; his son, John L. Turner, Jr. and his children Grayson Turner (Madison) and Jessica Turner (Logan); daughter, Addie McClure (Troy) and their children Maeve and Nolie McClure; sister, Judy Dragon (Larry), and niece Krista Rosenbrock (Larry) and their daughter Ellie.

There are no services planned. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Samaritan Cremation Services.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions are made to the Terre Haute Humane Society.
