Josephine Lucille Bays, 85, of Terre Haute, passed away on May 3, 2023 at home surrounded by her family. She was born October 10, 1937 to Antonio Muffo and Elizabeth Muffo of Washington Park, Illinois. Josie, as many of us called her, was preceded in death by her parents; husband Chester D. Bays Jr., as well as an infant son Charles Bays; brothers Paul Muffo, Jim Muffo, Tom Muffo, John Muffo, Bill Muffo; sister Anne Asbury and Eileen Sarga. Josie is survived by her sons Chester D. Bays III (Jenny), Fred A. Bays (Jane); daughter Julia A. Harney (Micky). She adored all her grandchildren Michelle Duke, David Duke, Don Kyle Jr., Zachary Bays, Waylon Bays, Alexander Atkinson, Shane Bays, Klarie Harney, Felisha Hanlon, Alexa Kelly, Whitney Huff, and Barney Harrington. Josie had many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, along with great nieces and nephews. She worked as a caregiver for McMillan Adult Day Services and Harborside Nursing Home. She then became a devoted housewife. She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church for many years and loved her church family. She loved spending time with her family and best friend, Genrose James, they both always claimed to be twin sisters. She enjoyed spoiling her kids and grandkids, always keeping ice cream in the freezer, and egg nog every Christmas. She had the most wonderful laugh; we all have her laugh in our thoughts forever. A memorial service will be held at Grace Community Church of Terre Haute, 1313 Lafayette Avenue, Pastor Mike Pringle will be officiating. The service begins at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 9th, 2023.
