Ray Andrew Smith, 71, was born June 30, 1954 to James and Callie (Young) Smith in Springfield, Tennessee. Ray was baptized at a young age and became a member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church.
He graduated from South Vigo High School and attended Indiana State University. After a four year tour with the United States Marines and a Vietnam Era Veteran. Ray worked at the United States Federal Penitentiary, J.I. Case, Jagcore, Terre Haute Tribune Star, and Bemis Plastic Extrusion.
Ray is preceded in passing by his parents, James and Callie Smith; sister Anna Gail (Cooper).
He is survived by three sons, Ray Smith II (Elaine) and Cameron Smith, Brandon Johnson; grandchildren Nathan Smith, Ray III Smith, Jaden Smith, Chelsey Purcell, Nevaeh Smith; two brothers Ceasar Smith (Gwendolyn), LaVaunt Smith (Phillis); uncle Own Edwards; and a host of nephews, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; he also leaves behind his special dog, Diamond.
Visitation for Ray will be on Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Samaritan Funeral Home. Reverend Amos Stephens will officiate services beginning at 12:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow the services at Calvary Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.samaritanfunerals.com
