Richard Eugene Fugate, 58, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away on March 22, 2026, in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Richard was born on June 4, 1967, and spent most of his life in Brazil, Indiana. He was a caring and loyal man with a sharp sense of humor and a personality you didn’t forget. He spoke his mind and told things as they were—always real and often with humor behind it.

On July 17, 1999, he married Mary Fugate. Together, they built a family that became the center of his world. Richard’s greatest accomplishment in life was being a devoted father to his three children and a proud Papaw to his grandchildren. Richard’s love for his family was unwavering, and he valued those relationships above all else.

Richard had a deep love for sports, especially wrestling, football, and basketball. He was a loyal fan of the Indianapolis Colts, the Indiana Hoosiers, and the Indiana Pacers. He also had a passion for history and learning, always curious and knowledgeable. He was someone who truly “knew a lot about a lot.” In his own unique way, he even found joy in collecting ink pens.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Norman Fugate and Norma Pauline Fugate; his sister, Debbie Nevins (Mike); and his half-brother, Walter Joe Fugate.

He is survived by his brother, Raymond Fugate (Lisa) and his children, Brandon Fugate (Cassidy), Ethan Fugate (Keashawna), and Bryawna McKinney (William); his grandchildren Allyson Cormican; Penelope and Lucifer Fugate; and Braylee and Baylyn McKinney.

Richard will be remembered for his love, his honesty, his humor, and the way he showed up for the people in his life. He leaves behind many family members, friends, and loved ones who will miss him dearly.
