Rod Larue Hatfield Obituary

Rod L. Hatfield 66, of Terre Haute, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday May 3, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Rod was born on September 3, 1958, to Paul B. Hatfield and Rosemary (Smith) Hatfield Moore.

Rod found Christ at an early age, and he dearly enjoyed being a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. He joined the Army, where he served for two and a half years, and he was incredibly happy letting others know that he was a veteran. After serving his term in the Army, Rod moved to Detroit, MI. After some time in Detroit, Rod lived in Indianapolis for a while, where he got married and divorced. Then in 2010, Rod reunited with the love of his life, Tawana Davis, and they united in marriage in 2011.

Rod was a simple man, but rich in heart. He characterized himself as a man of God and a family man. Rod was an amazing man of God, loved his gospel music, and he loved as God loves us. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and a great friend to all that knew and loved him. Rod loved spending time with his family, especially his grandbabies and great grandbabies. Watching them grow meant a great deal to him. He never met a stranger and loved having fun. He loved to joke and tease, and no one was exempt from his teasing, not even his little dog Lady. He always had that bright smile that would light up any room, and warm your heart.

Rod worked as a private contractor and loved concrete work. He repaired sidewalks, driveways and extended porches. As a young boy, Rod helped build an addition onto the family home. He was a man of many talents, especially the gift of love.

Rod loved to watch the birds fly, and as a child wanted to fly himself. He once asked, “if the birds can fly, why can’t I?” And now Rod has earned his wings, and he is flying high. There is so much that can be said about Rod L. Hatfield.

Rod was preceded in death by his father, stepdaughter Tawana Tryon, sister Rosetta L. Hatfield Hall, mother-in-law Maxine Davis, and brothers-in-law Franklin Jones and Ross Pruden.

Rod leaves behind to cherish fond memories of him; his wife, mother, son Marcus Davis, stepdaughter Kizzey Stewart, brother Paul (Fran) Hatfield of Terre Haute; seven sisters, Marvel (Joe) Edinburgh of Terre Haute, Deitra (Randy) Gilmore of Indianapolis, Towana (Larry) Hatfield, Lorie (Michael) Garrett, Tanya (Keith) McLaurin, Thresa Jones of Terre Haute and Leah (Lamont) of Indianapolis; five brothers-in-law, Dale Carson, Don Carson and Excel Pruden of Terre Haute, Myron Pruden of Evansville and Bryon Pruden of Chattanooga, TN; three sisters-in-law, Lucille Smith of Indianapolis, Tammy Bell and Sawana Davis of Terre Haute, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and family members.
