It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth May (Hoopingarner) Cesinger, 86, of Riley, IN, who passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Gibson Hospice Center.
Born on October 27, 1939, in Vigo County, Ruthie was the daughter of Everett and June Hoopingarner. She was a resident of West Terre Haute for over 50 years before spending the last 30 years in Riley, IN. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Errol Cesinger (2024), her sister and brother-in-law, Ester and John Perry, sister Barbara Hoopingarner and her nephew, Troy Decker.
She is survived by her children, Charles Vicars (Pam) of West Terre Haute and Robin Coffey (Robert) of Palmetto, FL; four grandchildren, Whitney Duncan (Eric), Cole Vicars (Hilary), Charlee Vicars, and Jerrica Pitts (Randy); and her great-grandchildren, Ryne Jeffers and Charlotte M. Vicars (expected March 2026). She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A dedicated homemaker, Ruthie also worked for decades at the CBS tape plant. She was a devoted supporter of her family and rarely missed a game or activity involving her children and grandchildren, with a particular love for baseball.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Gibson Hospice Center in memory of Ruthie May Cesinger.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Samaritan in Terre Haute, IN.
