Sarah Kinney Obituary

Sarah Elaine Kinney, 39, passed away February 4, 2025, at her home in Owen County. She was born on February 4, 1986, in Highland Park, IL to Thomas Kinney and Christina (Bruner) Kinney. Sarah graduated from Owen Valley High School in Spencer, IN in 2004. She loved working as a project manager at Boston Scientific, including the work trip to Costa Rica to assist in the opening of the new plant there. Anyone who was lucky enough to know Sarah, knew of her wittiness and her clever sense of humor, and that her friendship was a true gift. This was evident when the community rallied around her during her unexpected diagnosis and fierce battle with brain cancer in 2018. Sarah did not let the brain tumor stop her from graduating Magna Cum Laude with a BS in business from Indiana Wesleyan in 2018. In fact, she walked across the stage to accept her degree just a mere two weeks after the eight-hour surgery to partially remove the tumor that should have rendered her unable to walk or even speak.

Sarah loved her children. Of all the things she loved, she loved her children and her family the most, and she loved them fiercely. She was the protector of her siblings. Sarah was more than a sister; she was a best friend.  To Sarah, family was always the most important thing, and what she valued most.

Sarah is survived by her fiancé Lorne Bixler, their children Madison and Evan Bixler, her father Thomas Kinney; sisters Melissa (Luke) Kinney, Mary (Michael) Jarman and Colleen Kinney; mother-in-law Terry Bixler; nephews Chase Bandy, Kyvan Bandy, KJ Freeman and Quentin Bryant; nieces Claire Bandy and Maya Bryant.

She was preceded in death by her mother Christina, grandparents Dolores Lane, Virgil Bruner and Don and Cecile Kinney.

An obituary is not enough to honor the brief but amazing life of Sarah Elaine Kinney, so the family invites everyone who knew and loved her to attend a Celebration of Life on Saturday February 22, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at In God’s Arms (old IGA building) at 95 W Franklin St Spencer, IN. There will be an opportunity for those who wish to write or speak about their memories of Sarah. Her family would love to hear how she touched lives, and for her children to have stories to cherish forever.
