Dr. Stephen C. Carlson, 71 of Terre Haute passed away on August 18, 2018 at Signature Healthcare after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born to Harold and Margaret Carlson in Topeka, Kansas on July 3, 1947. Steve was a long time mathematics professor at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology retiring in 2011. He obtained his B.S., M.A. and PhD from Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas, home of the Jayhawks. He was a member of AMS and MAA mathematical organizations, spoke four languages, and was an author writing many articles for Britanica and several math journals. He also wrote a text book.
Steve was a loving husband and dad. He treasured all 6 of his grandkids and took great pride in their accomplishments. Steve had a special bond with his granddaughter Kayleigh whom he taught to love whatever he loved. Especially food, music, and learning. He also thoroughly enjoyed cuddling with Aubrianna and Gage, and watching KU basketball. He was meticulous, passionate, caring and persistent. He was a one of a kind and will be greatly missed by his loved ones!
Steve is survived by his wife Karen Carlson, sons Alex Carlson and Mike Carlson, daughters Emily Burnett (David) and Amy Groce, six grandchildren, and twin sister Susan Carlson. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Remnant Church located at 800 E. Haythorne Avenue. Visitation with be held from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. with services to follow. Reverend Allissa Santoro Williams will be officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Steve’s honor to the Alzeimer’s Assocation.
