Timothy Ray Horn, born on January 22, 1965, in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on December 5, 2024, at his brother Randy’s home in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was 59 years old.
Tim was the beloved son of Mary Lou Horn and George Horn, both of whom preceded him in death. Raised in Sullivan, Indiana, Tim grew up surrounded by the love and chaos of a big family. He spent his childhood playing sports and creating countless memories with his brothers—Rick Horn, Robin Horn (partner Jane Horn), Ron Horn (partner Cinda Horn), Randy Horn, Roger Horn (partner Angel Horn), and his sister, Rene Horn-Gay (partner Kevin Gay). The bond he shared with his siblings shaped many of the stories he would later share with his sons, capturing his mischievous spirit and love for adventure.
Tim’s mother, Mary Lou Horn, was a cornerstone of the family, known for her tireless work raising her children and running Mary Lou’s Home Plate Diner. The diner was not just a local gathering place but a family hub where most of the Horn family had the opportunity to learn the value of hard work, teamwork, and dedication. Her example left a lasting legacy that shaped Tim’s work ethic and appreciation for family.
In his personal life, Tim and Debbie Easter, now Debbie Ashba bore and raised two sons, Timothy Reid Horn, a mental health therapist, and Michel Ryne Horn, PhD, a medical engineer, who carry forward the Horn legacy of hard work, humor, and care for others.
Tim dedicated much of his career to making life a little sweeter for those around him. He started with Hostess Bakery Company, delivering iconic treats like Twinkies and mini muffins, and later worked at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility. Known for his dedication, Tim often arrived early to prepare meals for his coworkers, embodying his belief in showing kindness through service.
One of Tim’s greatest joys was gathering around a fire with his brothers, playing the guitar, and singing Tom Petty. Those evenings were filled with laughter, music, and connection, encapsulating Tim’s love for family and simple, meaningful moments.
Despite his deep love for others and his generous spirit, Tim faced significant struggles with mental health that, in his later years, led him to withdraw from those he cherished. His family holds these moments with tenderness and compassion, hoping to honor his memory by raising awareness about the importance of prioritizing mental well-being. They encourage everyone to lean into the love and support of family and friends, emphasizing that no one should ever face life’s challenges alone.
As they celebrate Tim’s life, his family shares this heartfelt message:
“Your mental health matters. Surround yourself with people who uplift you, and never hesitate to seek help when you need it. There is always someone who cares.”
To honor Tim, his family will hold a private celebration of life, remembering the laughter, love, and countless memories they shared with him. In lieu of flowers or donations, they invite you to take a meaningful step in caring for your mental health and spend time cherishing those you hold dear.
Timothy Ray Horn will be deeply missed, but his legacy of helping others, music, and humor will live on in the hearts of those fortunate to know and love him.
