Willard Saylor Obituary

Willard Van Saylor, "Will" was born May 10, 1956 in Pineville, Kentucky and died at home in Jasonville, Indiana on May 11th, 2023. Will is preceded in death by his parents Willard & Sue Saylor, sister Melva Salyor, and his son Jacob Saylor. He is survived by Terri Neuendorf, his son Jonathan Saylor, and his daughter Amie Lee Sumner, both of Ohio, a niece, a nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins.

For 20 years Will worked as a Firefighter/Paramedic in multiple states, returning to college as an adult student to study Geology and Secondary Education before starting his own business. 

Will served in Vietnam in the Army 82nd Airborne Rangers.  He loved jumping out of airplanes and continued to skydive in later years, even after becoming an amputee.

Will loved music and played multiple instruments including the bagpipes.  Will competed on the rodeo circuit, enjoyed scuba diving, baseball and softball, motorcycles, showing Tennessee Walking Horses and was Master of his Masonic Lodge in Indianapolis, Broad Ripple Lodge #643.  Will had a passion for gardening and playing sled hockey with the Ohio Warriors Veterans disabled sled hockey team.  Will rejoiced in returning and becoming active in the Catholic Church going to Mass daily between Jasonville, Sullivan, Linton, Bloomfield, Terre Haute, and Dubois, Indiana.  Will and Terri were inducted into the Brute Society of the Diocese of Evansville for exemplary service to the church.  Will volunteered as a Certified Peer Counselor for new amputees, helped coach the Ohio Blades Hockey Sled Team for disabled Youth, and also volunteered at St. Mary's Community Kitchen in Sullivan, Indiana, delivering meals with Terri to the homebound.  Will also was active in the Low Vision Program through The Will Center part of the Wabash Independent Living and Learning Center, Inc. and supported "Blessing Boxes," food for the poor, in multiple communities.

A Memorial Mass will be prayed on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.  Rosary at 7:10AM and Mass at 7:35AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 105 E Jackson St, Sullivan Indiana, and at St. Isidore Parish, St. Raphael Church, 5564 E St. Raphael St, Dubois, Indiana on Friday May 26, 2023 at 11:00 am, interment at a later date in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery in Anderson, Indiana.
