William Ridge Jr. Obituary

William Ridge, Jr. was born September 13, 1936 in Terre Haute.  He died on May 5, 2020 at the age of 83.  Bill was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School 1955.  He then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955-1959.  He was a member of the local F.O.P. Lodge 85.

Bill worked for the Terre Haute PD from 1959 until retiring in 1979 achieving rank of Lt. After the THPD he worked for the Terre Haute Street Dept. as Commissioner, Terre Haute Housing Authority, Galloway Photo and finally retiring from Ruben H Donnelly in 2001.

Preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 37 years Joyce Ann Ridge (Slaven), brother Jack Ridge and son William Scot Ridge.

Survived by four daughters Diane McCollough (Ron), Jackie White (Marty), Janet Hammond (Tim) and Gretchen Mullins (Ken), Sister Ruth Wier, inlaws Sandy Ridge Fisher, Bill Slaven, Robert Slaven and Murietta Slaven along with 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren

Enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and neighbors as well as hunting, fishing and working in his garden. He loved talking about his time in the Air Force and various adventures growing up with his brother Jack and friends. Everybody enjoyed listening to the stories about his life and experiences from WWII era living through the Korean War and when he joined the air force. The information he provided about life during the hard times and after he was married and had children were both entertaining and illuminating about what he and others endured.

The family wants to give a special thank you to Beverly Marlowe and Bobbi Marlowe Cox and family for all of the support and help Bill received. Thank you to the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice for the care provided. A celebration of life will be on July 18th at the F.O.P. Lodge 85 located at 14th and Hulman from noon until 4 pm.
